“Nuedu” means “knot” in Asturian, derived from the Latin “nodus”: a joint or link. But knots are also the fundamental elements that give wool fabrics their texture and mechanical properties, and they symbolise the interwoven nature of our human society within the ecosystem. A significant feature of some of Nuedu’s products is that they use wool from the Xalda sheep as their raw material. Xalda means “coarse” in Asturian and refers to the characteristics of this wool.
This is a native breed of the Principality of Asturias that was on the verge of extinction during the 20th century. It is believed that this type of wool was already in use in ancient times, meaning that the creation of garments today forms a bridge between the materials and techniques of the past and sustainable production that follows the principles of the circular economy.
