LAC 2024 Conference

On June 12, 2024, Santiago Rodríguez Pérez (researcher at the University of Oviedo in the EsArt group and member of the Culturality team) attended the Landscape Archaeology Conference (LAC), held at the University of Alcalá de Henares from June 10 to 14. The international conference brought together a good number of experts in archaeology, landscape history and historical ecology.

A paper was presented in session 17, entitled “Bridging historical landscape ecology and landscape archaeology: common questions and challenges in a rapidly changing world”. This panel was organised by the international network Integrated History and Future of People on Earth Research Network (IHOPE), the International Association for Landscape Archaeology (IALE) and the International Association of Landscape Archaeology (IALA), and coordinated by Sjoerd Kluiving, Alexandre Martínez, Rebekka Annie Paul Dossche, Benny Qihao Shen, Valentina Pescini, Pille Tomson, Nik Petek-Sargeant and Paul Lane.

The paper presented some of the preliminary results of the author’s doctoral research on the history of the cultural landscape of the Navia Valley (Asturias), its recent evolution and its current state, reflecting on the existing problems for the conservation of this cultural heritage and the tools that can be used for its preservation.
