Wellcome to our Artefact Gallery, an initiative within the CULTURALITY project! Every two weeks, one of our partners will spotlight a unique craft piece from their country, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and artistry that define each region. Join us on this journey to celebrate traditional craftsmanship and discover the diverse creative expressions of our project’s community.
The third round of the Artefact Gallery focuses on the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and circular economy in rural areas across Europe. Many traditional crafts inherently embrace circularity, producing durable, repairable, and recyclable products made locally from renewable, locally sourced materials with minimal waste. Examples presented in this edition showcase how craftspeople keep on circular practices or, by making conscious adjustments, introduce principles of circular economy into their work, contributing to more sustainable and resource-efficient rural communities and society as a whole.

The second round of the Artefact Gallery focuses on the ongoing fieldwork being conducted by the project teams, bringing forward examples of artefacts, artisans, and cultural practices that are becoming key areas of investigation. This edition reflects the current stage of research across the different regions, highlighting the materials and stories that are being explored and documented by each partner. It provides a snapshot of the researchers’ engagement with local communities and traditions, offering a preview of the elements that will later feed into both the Artefact Gallery and the VERA platform.

This first round of the Artefact Gallery initiative was all about presenting a selection of iconic artefacts chosen by each project partner, following a “best of” logic. As the first public-facing showcase of the project, this initial edition aimed to highlight emblematic examples of local craftsmanship, heritage, and cultural identity that each partner considered particularly representative or meaningful within the project’s themes. The goal was to offer a strong and engaging introduction to the diversity and richness of the territories involved, setting the tone for the forthcoming editions.
